How to Back Up Whatsapp to Google Drive

To use Google Drive backup, you'll need:

An active Google account on your device.
Google Play Services is already installed on your device. This is an application used to update Google applications and other applications from the Google Play Store.
Enough free space on your device to back up.
Strong and stable Internet connection.

Set up Google Drive backup

Open WhatsApp.
Tap More options > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > Back up to Google Drive.
Choose a backup frequency other than Never.
Select the Google account to use to back up chat history.
If you don't have a Google account connected, tap Add account when prompted and enter your information.
Tap Back up via to select the network you want to perform the backup on.

Note: Backing up over a cellular data network may result in additional data charges.

Turn on end-to-end encrypted backups

For an added layer of security, you can enable end-to-end encryption for your Google Drive backups.

Open WhatsApp.
Tap More options > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > End-to-end encrypted backup.
Tap ON.
Create a password or use a 64-digit encryption key.
Tap Create to create an end-to-end encrypted backup.

Back up to Google Drive manually

You can also manually back up your chats to Google Drive at any time.

Change the Google Drive backup frequency

Open WhatsApp.
Tap More options > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > Back up to Google Drive.
Choose a backup frequency.

Change the account that you want to use to perform the backup

Note: If you switch Google accounts, you will lose access to any backups stored in that account.
